Pumpkins Please!

This notice went home today:

Dear Parents,

Due to time constraints, we were unable to plan the field trip to go pumpkin picking. However, we still plan on using pumpkins for various math and science activities. Please send a pumpkin in with your child by Friday October 22nd. We will begin using them on Monday the 25th for weeklong activities and then decorating them on Friday.

The pumpkin should be big enough to decorate but small enough for your child to be able to carry it off and on the bus.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact any of us.

Thank you,

The First Grade Team

FALLing into new routines

Well, we are well into the school year and finally into the routines of Readers' Workshop. The students have adjusted very well to the new structure of switching classrooms and are beginning to work hard at their independent centers. Here is a video from 2 weeks ago, when we practiced "read to a friend" after discussing the importance of it.

Beginning this week, will be having volunteers in the classroom to walk through the 3 classrooms to help make sure the students are doing their best work. This will help Mrs. Burnham, Ms. Huebner, and myself to be able to give our full attention to the students we will be reading with in a small group and still get the questions answered the others might have. If there is ever a time you'd like to come in, please let us know! We'd love to have 1 person per classroom when possible :)

Below are some videos of a couple of students that read to the class. I believe it is so important for classmates to read to each other and share their knowledge so I love when I can allow more time for it.
Enjoy and have a great week....I know we will!
